Delicious but dangerous!

Delicious but dangerous!

LETLHOGONOLO MASHEGO
MOST Daily Sun readers know how delicious a cabbage fried in oil until it’s golden brown can be.
But it’s also very bad for you!
Health experts warn that food fried in oil until it changes colour not only loses most of its vitamins but also becomes rich in fats.
As part of Heart and Stroke Awareness Month, MediClinic offered free glucose, cholesterol and blood pressure tests yesterday at Soshanguve Plaza, north of Pretoria. Residents of Soshanguve and Mabopane were given free advice about a healthy lifestyle.
Nurse Puse Maponyane said they explain complicated medical terms and teach people about heart-related risks like high blood pressure and sugar diabetes.
“We suggest alternatives to foods that are bad for the heart,” she said, adding that the best way to keep the heart healthy was by not using too much oil. “Frying food in oil until it’s golden brown is dangerous!”
Puse said heart failure is often caused by high blood pressure and cholesterol. “These have an impact on the flow of blood, which weakens the heart.”
