MEET THE KASI ROBOT MASTER

HE USES everyday electrical equipment to build robots!
Fanie Ruberu (30) has created home-made robots, some which use electricity and some which don’t.
The robots he designed recently are not new to him.
Fanie remembers his first wooden gadget made at the early age of 14.
“I started by fixing television sets, stereo amplifiers, electronic toys and other electrical appliances. By then I had a basic understanding of electronics.”
As talented as he is, he believed he still needed more knowledge to help him advance his abilities.
“I studied information technology and it opened bigger doors for me. I was servicing the computers at campus.”
The Mamelodi-based gadget inventor’s great achievement was installing alarms, motion sensors and hidden camera surveillance systems.
This led Fanie to creating a personal gadgets’ museum.
He recently designed two motor robots that can hoot, switch lights and reverse, as well as turn left and right.
“The robots have a remote control which has about 12 volts which is not powerful enough to cause an electric shock.”
They will also work without electricity. “The robots will be connected to uninterrupted power supply and will function perfectly and keep on reversing, hooting and switching lights.”
Fanie uses all sorts of material to make his robots. He said: “For this one, I used a roll-on bottle to make the head of the robot.”
