"CELEBRATING OUR HERITAGE"

RESPECT your heritage. Never aspire to look like others.
This was the message delivered to the youth at the annual Heritage Day celebrations at Ditsong Tswaing Meteorite Crater in Tshwane on Saturday.
This year’s event was celebrated with the theme: “Reclaiming, restoring and celebrating our heritage”.
The aim of the celebrations was to reinforce the values of the communities’ history, cultural traditions and beliefs, according to a statement from Funanani Netshitomboni, the marketing and communications manager of Ditsong Museums of South Africa.

“It will also enhance and promote social cohesion in those communities.
“We want to ensure that the community sustains and maintains pride in its heritage and preserves it for prosperity,” Funanani said.
Heritage should be celebrated at all times, said Ditsong Museums CEO Makgolo Makgolo.
He told the youth they are beautiful the way they are and that there was no need for them to adopt international trends to improve themselves.

“Let us respect our culture and be beautiful as we are and never aspire to look like others,” Makgolo said.
He also used the occasion to announce that a community centre would be built in Tswaing.
